The Inner Yoga Teacher Training and Awareness programme is a three year course with each year distinct in its purpose. Classes for all three years are taught on weekends and the first year, the Foundation Course, is non-residential. The Foundation Course is followed by a two year residential teacher training course and includes two residential yoga retreat weeks. People who have completed a Foundation Course with a different organisation can apply for a place on the second and third year course.
The Foundation Course is designed to give students an understanding of the Inner Yoga approach to the asanas and the importance of connecting this posture work with the eight limbs of yoga. The combined practice of asana and the eight limbs of yoga will gradually integrate a personal yoga practice with the rest of our lives.
During the Foundation Course students are introduced to the postures, working up from the feet and ankles, through the pelvis to the spine with the aim of bringing life and awareness to the whole body. Jenny Beeken’s second book, ‘Your Yoga Body Map for Vitality’, follows this structure and is the main text for students on the Foundation Course.
The second year of the Inner Yoga Teacher Training and Awareness programme focuses on the Path of Yoga. Students contemplate how the ancient sacred texts can have meaning in our lives today, together with more in-depth practice of asana, pranayama and meditation.
During the third year the teaching focuses on enabling students to pass this teaching on to others, either individually or in group yoga classes. Jenny Beeken, Pauline Sawyer and Sarah Waterfield are the lead teachers on the second and third year programme and guest teachers include Gary Carter, of Natural Bodies, Brighton, amongst others.
The Inner Yoga Teacher Training and Awareness programme is recognised throughout the country as one of the leading yoga teaching qualifications. The full three year course is often a deeply transformative journey enabling students to develop their own intuitive approach to teaching yoga.
